How Oklahoma Schools Are Evaluated
Oklahoma's school accountability system assigns every public school an A-F letter grade based on key indicators of student success. This system, overseen by the OEQA, is designed to give parents a clear picture of school quality.
The Key Indicators
- Academic Achievement: Do students know the content expected for their grade level? (State Tests)
- Academic Growth: Are students improving year over year, regardless of where they start?
- English Language Proficiency (ELPA): Are English learners making progress?
- Chronic Absenteeism: Are students attending school regularly?
- Graduation Rate: Percentage of students graduating in 4, 5, or 6 years.
- Post-Secondary Opportunities: Participation in AP, IB, Concurrent Enrollment, or Career Tech programs.
Why It Matters
A school's grade impacts its funding, its community reputation, and most importantly, reflects whether students are being prepared for the future.
